House. 1907. by C.R. Ashbee. Roughcast walls, with limestone ashlar dressings
and rubble plinth; porch of squared and coursed limestone; gabled stone slate
roof; stone ridge stacks. L-plan. 2 storeys; 3-bay range, with 2-storey porch
set on angle of wings to front. Pointed moulded arched doorway, with inscription
HEA/1907 above. Half-glazed door inside porch, set in cyma-moulded wood
architrave, has decorative iron fittings. Tall sashes with glazing bars set in
moulded wood architraves. Wide pointed tympanum arch with raised voussoirs over
sashes in left gable end; oeil-de-boeuf window in right gable end. Interior not
inspected but likely to be of interest. C.R. Ashbee was one of the foremost
architects of the Arts and Crafts Movement, having a particular skill in
metalwork.
