Public House. c1860 in the style of William Burges who worked for Lord
Carrington at Moulsoe Church and Gayhurst (q.v.) Brick with stone dressings,
steeply pitched tiled roof with ornamental ridge, brick chimneys, stone
gable copings, 2 storeys, plinth, first floor stone string. Two full height
canted bays with hipped roofs and finials, flanking central stone arched
door with tiled pentice over. Chamfered stone mullioned leaded windows,
ground floor with blank trefoil arched heads, first floor with shouldered
heads, moulded chamfer stops, and lintel with roll moulding. 3 light stone
mullioned window above central door. Section on right has wide stone
arched doorway and 3 slit windows with stone lintels, with an open gallery
above, now glazed in behind the posts and braces. Rear elevation has stone
strings and 4 stone mullioned leaded windows to 1st floor, 2 4 light
similar windows to ground floor and stone framed door, and smaller windows
to LH. 1 storey wing with verandah, tiled roof and louvre.
