Barn, cowhouse and granary. Probably late C18 to early C19. Sandstone
rubble, sandstone dressings and brick arches, Welsh slate and corrugated
asbestos roofs. L-plan comprising ten-bay barn aligned roughly north/
south with cowhouse and granary extending east from south end. Barn: west
elevation has two rows of vent slits; two raking-top porches each about
a third of the way in from the ends and each with two-leaved ledged doors;
gables have verges, owl holes and vent slits; interior has trusses with
collars supported by twin posts from tie-beams. Cowhouse and granary has
seven bays diminishing in height, though all of two storeys from west to
east; north elevation has late C19 tallet stairs in brick rising from east
to left-hand side, vent-slits and to the right two first floor windows each
of two lights, the lights being divided by two diamond-section oak mullions
and two doors, one segmentally headed, one square headed; east gable has
central ledged door under brick arch, two rows of vent-slits and an owl hole;
interior of west part has king-post trusses, the lower part to the east has
collar trusses each with two supporting posts stengthened by curved braces
on the underside of the principals. The barn, cowhouse and granary define
the farmyard to the west of White Cross Farmhouse (qv). Included for group
value.
