4/145 Caradoc Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Probably mid-C19. Rock-faced squared sandstone and sandstone
dressings with tiled roofs and brick stacks. Rectangular plan with garden
front facing south and projecting gable front to east. Two storeys and
attic. South elevation has 1:1 windows with mullions. Gable front to right
has 4-light mullioned and transomed windows to ground floor; 3-light mullion
with hoodmould to first floor and 2-light mullion to attic. Range to left
has 2-light mullioned and transomed ground floor window to left-hand side
and 2-light mullion above lean-to porch at junction with gable front. Porch
is timber-framed with five pointed open panels to front and entry from left.
Front door within porch has six panels and a 4-centred head. Interior has
two-flight open newel staircase with helical balusters in late C17 style
Fireplace in-ground floor south-west room is of brown and white marble
with floral tiles. Room above the last has semi-circular headed cast-iron
fireplace in stone surround with straight-cut chamfer stops. Caradoc Farmhouse
forms a conspicuous part of the farm complex to the west of Caradoc Court
for which it was the home farm. Included for group value.
