House, public house at time of listing. Early C17 with late C18 and C20 additions and alterations. Brick and timber-frame with brick infill on sandstone plinth, tile roof. T-plan, the bar of the T is C17 timber-frame, the rest a late C18 brick addition, lateral stack to timber-frame part with two six-point star plan shafts. Central stack to other part.
West front: jettied timber-frame wing to left of two storeys with gable-lit attic; two-light casement to first floor and angled bay to ground floor; to right two storeys and attic lit by two gabled dormers; brick coped verges; three windows: three-light casements under rubbed. brick heads with square labels; entrance to left through gabled porch.
Framing: three square panels high to each floor, straight tension braces, decorative jowls to ground floor corner posts. Undergoing renovation at time of survey (November 1984).
