7/113 Elcombe Farmhouse

GV II

Detached Farmhouse. Mid C18. Dressed stone walls. Slate roof
with gable-ends and stone gable-copings. Reconstituted stone stack
at left hand gable, C20. Right hand gable has stack embrasure, with
stack removed from top. 2 storeys, 5 windows, 2-light wooden
casements with glazing-bars, C20 renewals. 3-light casement at north
end, ground floor. Stone porch with stone gable-coping and ornamental
apex-block. Square entrance with moulded jambs and heads. Projecting
heart-shaped stone over entrance with unfinished inscription: "Hec bomus
Aedific" (sic). Oval moulded stone window in each side of porch.
2-leaf front door with recess-fielded panels and a wooden frame. C18.
South gable-end has an original outshut with stone gable-coping and
moulded kneeler. Slate pentice roof. C18 attic window over, with
2-light stone mullion and moulded label over. Interior: very intact
C18 interior with extensive fielded-panelling in ground and first
floor rooms. Kitchen formerly in left ground with built-in C18
dresser and shelves. Lobby-entrance and continuous newel-stair with
bulbous balusters and rolled handrail, C18, round a small central
stairwell.
