GV II*

Turret and boundary wall. c1459-69. For Dean and Canons of
Westbury Church. Red sandstone rubble and limestone ashlar. A
round corner turret with cornice to conical ashlar roof that
curves up to a finial; blocked lancet opening facing river,
the opposing side having chamfered lancet opening and inserted
C19 door with brick arch. Rubble wall extends approx 30m to
the west. INTERIOR not inspected. The turret formed the NW
corner of the quadrangular layout at Westbury College (qv),
and the wall its N boundary. A notable example of a medieval
precinct wall with turret. Wall to east now incorporated into
residential development (not included).
