Manor House. C16, C17 and later. Slatestone with granite. Asbestos slates on
gabled and hipped roofs with stone and brick chimney stacks. L shaped plan with C18
wing to south on left of (east) entrance front. 2 storeys. East front has C19 wood
sash, 8 panes per sash with exposed sash-box at second floor of C18 wing. A brick
shaft rises off eaves to left of window; the roof is gable ended to left, hipped
above sash. Large gable end of east front has early C16 4-centre arched doorway
with moulded spandrels and hood mould in left hand corner. Extra label stop
suggests possible resiting. Remainder of gable is rendered and blind and survives
from C17 wing removed. At gable apex is brick shaft on tapering stone cap. The
roof changes profile behind this gable. The large gable has lean-to on north side.
To right a window and door and window midway over. Both windows are 2-light
casements, 8 panes each. Gable end brick stack. Rear elevation to west has
external stone lateral stack with tapering stone cap, possibly incorporating
adjacent stair turret all at left. To right first floor wood sash 6-pane each sash
with exposed sash box and wider wood window under. C18 wing projects slightly to
left.
Interior has chamfered oak beams in 2 rooms and huge fireplace with chamfered oak
lintel and bread oven to north end and low arched opening at the side of lateral
fireplace. First floor and roof not inspected.
