- Newton Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Early Cl9 possibly incorporating parts of an earlier building; later
additions and alterations. Roughly coursed slate-stone, slate-hung to front and
partially to gable ends; slate roof. 2 storeys. 3-window front; glazing bar sashes
to left and centre on first floor (16-paned to left) and paired to left on ground
floor. Late C20 casement to upper right and 3-light window to lower right with
L-hinged casement to centre, all windows with slate cills. Central 6-panel door
under flat-roofed open porch. Integral end stack to left rebuilt late C20 and
prominent rendered external end stack to right with cloam oven projection to base.
Cl9 kitchen range wrapped around right gable end has semi-circular cloam oven
projection to base of integral end stack. Full-length 2-storey catslide outshut
to rear of main range has tall 18-paned glazing bar sash lighting staircase.
Interior: Central cross-passage leads to Cl9 dog-leg staircase with turned
balusters. Several plank doors, some with H-hinges others with fleur-de-lys pointed
strap hinges including door to dairy in left corner of outshut. Slate shelves to
dairy.
