Shown on OS map as St Lawrence's Chapel. Farmhouse, possibly incorporating remains
of domestic chapel. Mid C18 remodelling of late C15/early C16 building; later
additions and alterations. Roughcast and painted roughly coursed slate-stone, slate-
hung to front on first floor of main range; slate roofs, hipped to main range.
Original building probably a long range aligned approximately east-west, C18
extension to front forming present main range. 2 storeys. 3-window front to C18
addition, 16-paned glazing bar sashes, those to first floor directly below eaves.
Prominent central C20 gabled porch. Integral end stack to left with tall painted
brick top and shutter end stack to right. Integral end stack to rear right at
junction with right range and stone stack in rear roof slope to left. Right range
has C19 casements to left and right and C20 casement to centre directly below
eaves. C20 casement to either side of C20 gabled glazed porch over 4-panel door/top
panels glazed). Interior: One flat and several chamfered joists to left ground-floor
room of right range; chamfered joists to rear left room of main range (pre-C18
part). Open fireplaces with chamfered wood lintels and cloam ovens. Cusped trefoil-
headed piscina in front wall of right ground-floor room of right range is probably
C14. Collar truss roof in 4 bays (including hips) to C18 part and late C18/C19
king-post roof to long range, including part behind C18 addition. The piscina may
have been brought from elsewhere but in 1447 Bishop Lacy of Exeter granted an
indulgence in connection with a chapel here - probably a domestic chapel or oratory
associated with a manor house on this site.
