Description

STOKE CLIMSLAND -
SX 37 SE
8/122 Barn approx 80m
north-east of
- Trehill Farmhouse

- II

Barn. Probably late C17 or early C18 with minor later alterations. Roughly
coursed slate-stone with granite dressings; corrugated iron roof. 2 levels.
Doorway to left and window to far right directly below eaves. Ground floor
has 2 doorways to right, left partly infilled and roughly central doorway
flanked by 2 small windows. Tiny rectangular recess to left has wooden window
with crudely carved ogee arch. Truncated external end stack to left and lean-to
to rear on left.
Interior: Continuous loft supported on chamfered cross beams has space for
hay delivery at back wall; spiral staircase in lean-to projection. Collar
truss roof in 3 bays to either side of central stone cross wall. The presence
of the staircase and stack suggest that the left end of the barn was formerly
domestic. Trehill Farmhouse is not included in this list.
