Five town houses in row. c1820 for Edward West. Flemish bond red
brick; painted random rubble to rear; brick chimneys; Welsh slate
roof. Three-storey; three-storey rear wing to No 2. Front: 3-
window sash fenestration to Nos 2 and 10; 2-window sash
fenestration to Nos 4 to 8, all with gauged brick flat arches.
Ground floor sashes of Nos 2 and 10 are 16-pane, otherwise all
ground and middle floor sashes are 12-pane. Upper floor sashes are
mixture of 6 and 9-pane. Central open pedimented doorways to Nos 2
and 10, each wth attached Tuscan columns; 6-panel fielded doors in
round-arched openings with fanlights over. Simple doorways with
Regency ironwork porches to Nos 4 to 8 being to left of ground
floor sash. Moulded eaves cornice to No 2. Ridge-mounted
chimneys. South east end of No 1: off-centre sashes as on front
elevation. Left is attached arch-way of No 12 Parsonage Street
(q.v.). Rendered rear wing with hipped roof to No 2. Generally
mixed fenestration at rear with timber lintols. Tall round-arched
rear wing.
Interiors not inspected, but panelled shutters are visible to front
sashes. Row is also known locally as The Crescent due to its
gradual curve. Very important townscape value. (A. Best et al, An
