House. C16 (said to be 1565: on Clintons Estate map of 1588).
Long timberframed one and a half storeys, plastered, facing N,
with weatherboard apron and steep thatched roof, half-hipped.
3-unit cross passage plain. Only E service room was floored-
over originally, with axial joists trimmed for stairs on both
N and S sides. Lower bay of hall and possibly the parlour
floored-over in later C16 with chamfered and stopped axial
beams (bar-and-hollow stops) and stopped chamfers to joists
over hall. Upper bay of hall floored-over, and subdivided for
staircase S, in C17 when large single flue chimney built in
cross passage. Stump of diagonally set square flue emerges
from roof ridge. Parlour joists, its external gable chimney,
and the 2-light and 3-light wooden casements and eyebrow
dormers (1 on N, 3 on S) date from C18. Side purlin roof.
Timber frame exposed on interior. One and a half storeys
rear wing c.1970 with plastered walls and tiles gambrel roof.
