C16 or earlier timber-framed building with painted brick and flint infilling. The
first floor of the north westernmost window bay oversails on the protruding ends
of the floor joists and brackets with a gable over it. Tiled roof. Two storeys.
Two casement windows. It is thought that this may have been the toll cottage for the
Turnpike Road and that the name of the adjoining road, Sparepenny Lane, may have
been associated with the avoiding of paying the toll by the local inhabitants.
