Wested Farm Barn including Chaff House

Barn and chaff house. Barn late C17 or early C18, chaff house did C18.
Aisled timber barn, the exterior clad in C20 brickwork in Sussex bond
with steeply pitched corrugated asbestos roof. L shaped range of 6 x 8
bays. 2 hipped waggon entrances. Interior has heterogeneous upright
posts mainly jowled and with chamfered edges and typically C18 profile.
Angled queen strut roof with staggered purlins and original pegged
rafters. Midstrey bay has windbraces and curved windbraces to the
upright posts in the wall plate. Easternmost bays have C20 inserted
floor. Chaff House is mid C18 addition of 4 bays to north. Through
purlins, angled queen posts and upright posts with cut profile jowls.
Pegged rafters without ridgepiece. Diagonal windbraces. C20 floor
inserted without disturbing structural elements.
