TR 04 SE BRABOURNE BIRCHOLT


4/1 Bircholt Court


II

House. C16, altered late C17 and mid C19. Timber framed with brick
infill and extended with red brick with plain tiled roof. Two storeys
on plinth with hipped roof and central stack. Two wooden casements on
first floor and one on ground floor. Moulded panelled door with semi-
circular fanlight in gauged surround in C19 gabled porch. Two storey
and garret extension to right with canted bay, tile hung on first floor
on right return. Left return with plinth, plat band and English bond
brickwork, originally extended to an outshot, raised to a second storey.
The original framed building extended originally further to the north
(left return), the end wall rebuilt late C17. Dated panel to left of
front elevation showing 60, the first part of the date now lost. A
manorial site, the earthwork remains of Bircholt parish church (St.
Margaret's) lie adjacent to the north.
