House. Mid C16 and clad C18. Timber framed and clad with galletted
ragstone with red brick dressing; tile hung on 1st floor with plain
tiled roof. Four framed bay lobby entry. The present entry front
(to the west) largely consists of an outshot and ragstone porch with
plank door. The original entrance elevation is to the east, of 2
storeys with brick-trimmed plinth and quoins. Fish-scale tile hanging
to 1st floor with hipped roof with gablets and stack to centre right.
Four metal casements to 1st floor, 3 on ground floor and glazed door to
centre right. Brick outshot to right. Interior: full frame visible
with clasped purlin roof, gunstock jowled posts and stop-chamfered
beams. Coved inglenook and round-backed fireplace in 2nd room. Stack
dated 1772 in interior but WM 1729 on exterior. Named after John Loud,
who resided here (and probably built the timber house) 1552.
