Farmhouse, now house Later C17; altered. Coursed squared sandstone,
composition tile roof. L-shaped: single-depth 3-unit hearth-passage plan
main range with short rear wing at east end. Three storeys, with 5 1st-floor
windows; south front has dripcourses on 2 levels, the lower stepped down in
the 3rd bay; Tudor-arched doorway to 3rd bay, with moulded surround and deep
lintel; double-chamfered mullioned windows of 2, 2, 3 and 2 lights to the
left and 4 lights to the right on both principal floors (3rd and 5th at
ground floor have lower sills); and one small 2-light window to 2nd floor
aligned above the 4th of these. Ridge chimney slightly left of doorway very
large external chimneys with offsets at both gables. Left gable has inter
alia an inserted door at ground floor. Right gable has to rear of stack a 3-
light window reduced to one light, another at 1st floor reduced to 2 lights,
and on each side of stack smaller chamfered windows on 2 levels to the 2nd
floor/attic; continued return wall of wing has single-light window at ground
floor 2-light window above; rear gable has single-storey outbuilding
addition at ground floor (not of special interest), 2 single-light windows at
1st floor and another at attic level; gable coping with kneelers, and apex
chimney. Rear of main range has a flight of external steps to a doorway
close to the angle with the wing, between Ist and 2nd floors, beneath the
deck of this a 2-light stair window, and 2-light mullioned windows on all
levels. Except at attic level, all windows at sides and rear have straight
dripmoulds over then.
interior: former back doorway opposed to front door detectable but blocked
stone staircase to rear of stack, the lower flight removed (and replaced by
wooden staircase obtruding into former kitchen in 3rd bay); large stone-
arched fireplace in gable wall at this end; external access to 2nd floor
store by doorway in rear wall.
