Terraced town house. c. 1733. Brown brick, slate roof. 4 storeys
(early C19 attic), and basement. 4 windows wide. Doorway off
centre left with stone architraved doorcase and consoles carrying
moulded cornice. Recessed sash windows with flat brick arches. 1st
floor plat band and sill band; stone cornice over 2nd floor, parapet
with coping. Wrought iron C18 area railings with stone obelisks,
flanking entrance. The last residence of Richard Brinsley Sheridan,
dramatist and politician,who died there in 1816 (L. C. C. plaque).
Interior similar in plan to No 3, enriched panelling and door and
window architraves to ground and first floor, the latter with
enriched cornices, the front room with chimney breast flanked by
fluted Corinthian pilasters; fine staircase with octagonal drum
skylight, architrave string, turned balusters, panelled dado; at
1st floor level on south of compartment is a probably early C19
timber oriel with pedimented casement window, etc. Part of
Burlington Estate.
