1816/9/10004 Burrington House

GV II

Vicarage, now house. Early C19. Rendered stone with limestone
dressings; hipped slate roof and rendered stacks. Double-depth
plan with entrance hall to rear stair hall; service range
extending to rear left, making L plan. adjoins 1930s extension
to rear right. 2 Storeys. Garden. Front of symmetrical 5-
window range has late C20 glazed door in pedimented architrave,
6/6 pane sashes and moulded cornice beneath parapet. Right
return has tripartite sash above tripartite French window. Early
C19 sashes to left return and rear, which has moulded door
architrave to bowed entrance bay to one-storey 1930s extension.
Interior: fine quality early C19 joinery including panelled
shutters, some with Gothick heads, mahogany doors with brass
fittings, open-well staircase with fret-cut brackets, turned
balusters and wreathed handrail with ivory inlay to newel;
architraves to rear right room have Perpendicular-style
colonettes. Fine moulded and enriched cornices, particularly
hall with paterae to modillioned cornice and to rear- right.
Ground-floor room to right has Gothick-style marble fireplace and
first-floor room to right has classical coloured marble
fireplace; plainer early C19 fireplaces to other rooms.
