The centre front gable contains a C19 Arms, and the date of first building, 1763. The Arms are: In a lozenge, for Cust, Ermine, on a chevron sable three fountains proper. In the top of the lozenge is a small escutcheon, Agent a red hand of Ulster, denoting a Baronet. The large escutcheon has the Arms of Brownlowe: Or an escutcheon between 8 martlets sable. It is usual to place the Arms in a lozenge if the property nominally belongs to a lady (not expected to carry a shield in war), but I dont know if this was intended here. (Photo Jun 2014).
