House belonging to Southill Estate. Late C18 (possibly encasing an earlier
building), with mid and late C19 additions. Mainly red brick with clay tile
roofs, latest addition in mottled yellow brick. Main block is 2 storeyed and
of 3-room plan, and has lower 2 storeyed block projecting from rear. Mid C19
additions are to both gable ends of main block and within angle to rear. Late
C19 addition is to gable end of rear block. W elevation, main block:
symmetrical facade. Ground floor has 2 Venetian windows. First floor has 2
sash windows with flat heads, flanking a Diocletian window with moulded
keystone. All sashes have glazing bars and gauged brick heads. Central
trelliswork verandah with leaded sloping hood. Within this is flush panel
door in moulded surround with rectangular fanlight, flanked by single light
windows. Wood modillion eaves cornice. Projecting multiple brick stacks to
both gable ends. Mostly sash windows elsewhere, casements to late C19 block.
C18 rear wing has substantial multiple ridge stack, apparently earlier than
C18 and suggesting earlier origins for the building.
