GV II

Pair of Bowood estate cottages, 1853 by Emily, Lady Shelburne,
squared rubble stone with stone slate valley roofs, barge boarded
eaves and octagonal paired stacks. One and a half storeys, Tudor
style with leaded stone mullion windows. South front has stacks
on roof slope, two 2-light shouldered dormer gables with finials,
two 3-light ground floor windows with hoodmoulds and central Tudor-
arched doorway. Lean-to stone slate verandah to centre and right.
West end 2 gables, larger to right with 2-light mullion window each
floor. East end, to road, has 2 gables, to left with 2-light over
canted 1-2-1-light stone bay, that to right projects with upper 2-
light over ashlar Tudor-arched gabled porch to No 22. Three
octagonal shafts in valley between ranges. North side has 2 stone
dormer gables, ground floor added lean-to to left and 2-light to
right. Recessed gable to right has 2-light to each floor.
Design in Bowood estate plans annotated that cottages were designed
by Lady Shelburne, erected 1853 and cost £376/5/7.
