ST 97 SE CALNE WITHOUT OLD DERRY HILL, Pewsham
(north side)

2/106 Well House

GV II

Well-house, c1900, circular, 6 timber posts with arched braces
carrying conical stone slate roof with ball finial. Circular
pennant stone well-head with radiating pennant stone paving around.
Top plate with painted inscription 'Here quench your thirst and
mark in me an emblem of true charity who while my bounty bestow am
neither heard nor seen to flow. Repaid by fresh supplies from
heaven for every cup of water given'. Identical to well-houses
set up by the Poynder family of Hartham Park at Biddestone, Colerne
and Hilmarton, Wilts.
