Parish church. Parts of the north wall may be C12, blocked north arcade of Nave
C13, the rest of the church appears to be C18-C20, rebuild and additions.
Original build of rubble and limestone, C18-C20 build of red brick, grey slate
roofs. Polygonal east apse. Dentilled eaves cornice. 7 chamfered 2 centred
arched windows. Nave. South wall, 3 buttresses, the western incorporating old
material to west face, plinth, 2 cinquefoiled 3.light windows, roundels over, 2
centre arched heads, labels with stops. Nave north wall, western buttress
incorporating old material to west face. Blocked arcade of 3 bays, 2 centred
arches of 2 chamfered orders, moulded capitals and chamfered bases to octagonal
columns, attached half columns to responds. West wall, plinth, pediment with
moulded brick cornice, round window under with small roundels. Gabled porch,
segmental archway with side lights, vertically boarded door, dated 1937.
Interior features. Chancel, ribbed roof on moulded corbels. Brass altar rail.
Chamfered 2 centred Chancel arch on moulded corbels. Nave. Panelled octagonal
pulpit with sounding board over. Wall memorials to Thos. Hicheringwell and his
wife Elizabeth 1747, Elizabeth Hicheringwell MDCCCV, John Maurice Constable
1747. Boarded roof with 5 tie beams supporting moulded queen posts. C20
octagonal font with carved panels. In the churchyard is a C20 bell frame
containing a cracked C15 bell by John Danyell, inscribed, "Sit Nomen Domini
Benedictum." RCHM 1.
