SS 90 SW THORVERTON SILVER STREET, Thorverton

House. C18 or earlier, refurbished in the circa early C19. Whitewashed rendered cob
and stone ; slate roof, hipped at ends ; axial stack'with brick shaft, rear right
lateral stack.
Plan Single depth plan, 3 rooms wide with entrance to right of centre into a stair
hall, heated principal rooms on either side and an extra room at the left end which
has a separate entrance on the front and was formerly heated from the axial stack.
Exterior 2 storeys. 1:3 window front, symmetrical at the right end with steps up to
a recessed panelled front door with panelled reveals and soffit and a rectangular
fanlight with glazing bars. The doorway has pilasters with recessed panelling and a
cornice and is flanked by circa early C19 16-pane sashes, 3 first floor 4 over 8 pane
sashes above. To the left there is a further door into the left end service room,
half-glazed with a flat porch canopy carried on moulded brackets, 4 over 8 pane sash
sashes above. There is a curious arched recess with a sill on the left return.
Interior Joinery of both the C18 and C19 the former including cupboard doors and 2-
panel first floor door, the latter a stick baluster stair with a ramped handrail.
Probably C19 pump in working order in service room.
Roof Tie beam design with a timber wall plate and sawn timbers, some of the main
trusses with secondary collars, probably early C19, but with evidence of a change in
roof pitch at the front. A curved cob and stone wall to the rear garden is included
in the listing.
Group value with other detached houses in Silver Street.
