3m north east of the chancel of
the Church of St Mary the
Virgin
GV II

Row of 5 headstones. All are C18 in memory of various members of the Jarret
family. All are upright sandstone slabs standing from 150-600mm high with
shaped heads. There is a row of 4 adjacent stones, all with crossed arrows
inscribed on their heads and another some 2-3m to the north which has a double
curvilinear head and recessed double front with moulded frame. The heads of
this one are inscribed with hourglasses amongst scrolls. All are inscribed
with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. The double-headed one
commemorates the death of John Jarret in 1763. Not all the others are easily
legible but the earliest records the death of Richard Jarret in 1725.
