Double chamfered chancel arch, the inner order supported on octagonal responds with moulded capitals. Right at the back, the high altar was ordered destroyed during the Reformation. The huge stone was so massive it didnt break when the workmen pushed it over. To avoid a fuss, they just dug a trench and made it part of the floor. 200 years passed. Religious tolerance had improved along with prosperity and the altar stone was reinstated with the aid of a steam powered winch. (Photo Aug 2008).
