Corner site with Tower Path. Irregular group of picturesque late C18/early
C19 buildings. Old bill Flats is a 3 storey red brick early Cl9 house with
hipped slate roof. South-west front to Middle Street with 3 windows to upper
floors, 2 to ground floor: recessed sashes, flat stucco arches with keystones.
Central, Cl9, 4 panel door in panelled reveal, rectangular fanlight. Doorcase
of pilasters, scroll brackets and moulded cornice hood, Secondary door to
left of 4 flush panels. South east return front to Town Path has one window.
Irregular earlier wing set back at right angles facing Town Path is the Three
Crowns Public House. 2 storeys red brick with old tile roof. Large tripartite
sash windows, glazing bars intact to both floors. Glazed and panelled door
to right. Simple storey wing projecting to road at right angles to last
with hipped slate roof and large canted bay window. Moulded surrounds to
sash lights, glazing bars, moulded cornice, at south east end overhanging
small feeder stream to river. Extending at right angles to north-east largely
built of stone rubble, I storey slate roof. Possibly earlier outbouse.
Old Mill Flats and the Three Crowns Public House form a group with Old Mill Cottage.
