Description

SHIBDEN
1.
5112 (off Horley Green Lane)
Spa House
II

2.
Former Bath House built in association with the Horley Green Mineral Springs
c 1840. Coursed stone with a stone slate roof. Italianate pavilion-like structure
comprising a two storey centre and projecting one storey wings. The centre
has a tripartite window below and an overarched Venetian window above, all entirely
plain and set in a continuous recess; the wings have plain round headed windows
framed by compiled astylar pilaster strips to the front and plain doorways to the
inward facing flanks. The centre roof has a low pitched gable and deep eaves on
moulded timber brackets. The wings are corniced behind which a monopitch roof
slopes down to the rear. The left wing is the bath house proper and is entirely
occupied with the plain stone-lined bath with steps leading down into it. The rest
of the interior is featureless apart from a plain stone fireplace to the upper
floor.
