II
Parish church. Nave and chancel 1870-78 by JP Seddon; aisles
1902-8 by Bottle & Olley. Cut and knapped flint with red brick
dressings. Slate roofs. Nave, aisles and chancel.
EXTERIOR: east end with flushwork panels round the 5-light
Geometric east window. Corners of chancel develop into
polygonal pinnacles. East end of the aisles with one roundel
each, with tracery. North aisle has a 3-bay vestry to the east
lit through 3 lancets and with an arched door. West of this
are three 3-light arched Perpendicular windows separated by
buttresses. Portal at west end of aisle with 4 orders of
chamfered brick arches. Above it is a bell-cote suspended
between 2 polygonal turrets. West end lit through 2 paired
lancets with 2-light Decorated tracery and a rosette above.
3-light Perpendicular south aisle windows. Lean-to aisle roofs
and gabled nave roof.
INTERIOR: 4-bay arcade of drum piers on tall bases with
stiff-leaf capitals supporting pointed brick arches. Yellow
and blue brick patterning. Boarded and arched roof. Thin
timber arch differentiates nave from chancel. Rafter roofs to
aisles.
