Masonic hall, now public house and gymnasium. c1850 and c1875, with late C20 alterations. Ashlar and stucco with hipped slate roof to the left block, and single side wall stack. EXTERIOR: 2 and 3 storeys; 4 and 6 window ranges. Earlier block, to left, Italianate style. Rusticated plinth, sill and impost bands, string courses, moulded impost band to first floor, bracketed wooden cornice. Blank panels to the first floor with glazed lunettes with moulded surrounds. Ground floor has moulded round-arched recesses each with 2 round-headed lights with cast-iron mullion and transom, and central stone shaft. In the tympana, roundels with Masonic symbols. Left return, 2 windows, has similar fenestration. The lower left windows have louvres and deep recesses in the plinth below them. The lower 3-storey stucco block, to right, has plinth, first floor sillband, moulded cornice and plain parapet. Windows are 12 pane sashes. On the first floor, 2 pairs of sashes with moulded surrounds, separated by the head of the doorcase. Above, 3 pairs of smaller 12 pane sashes with moulded surrounds, the 3 right windows blank. Central round-headed rusticated recess with multiple keystones and brick lining, containing moulded stone doorcase with scroll brackets to shell hood decorated with masonic symbols. Panelled double door with overlight. Rendered right return has a C20 glazed addition. INTERIOR not inspected.
