of Stockton Railway

Western retaining wall of railway station. 1893 by William Bell. Built by
the North Eastern Railway Company. Red brick, with blue brick and ashlar
dressings. Chamfered ashlar plinths, blue brick impost band, dentillated red
brick eaves, and ashlar cornice. High wall, with square terminating piers with
moulded ashlar caps. The wall is articulated with pilasters, and between irregular
pairs of round arched windows with moulded keystones. This building was originally
linked to the remainder of the station to the east (qv) by a large iron roof,
which was removed in 1978.
