GV II
A single range, now a pair of houses, formerly a row of 4 cottages. Late C16/early C17; extensively restored in 1964. Timber-framed with the timbers exposed on the upper storey at front and rear; render to ground storey. Plaintiled roof. 2 internal chimney-stacks. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. 6 window range, all C20 2-light casements; random C20 fenestration to the ground storey and 3 plain boarded doors. INTERIOR: both halves of the building are in 3 bays with main beams exposed, on the upper storey with housings for long braces. In No.18 the trimmers have scroll stops, and 2 internal cross-beams are set on edge, possibly indicating a former smoke-bay. In No.20 a large ornate early C18 fireplace-surround with cast-iron panels at the sides, one with the figure of a man and the other of a woman, each enclosed by an arbour-like decoration, was introduced during the 1964 restoration and is said to have come from Cavenham Hall. Roofs not seen.
