Christ Church looking east-north-east on Thursday afternoon, June 20, 2019. The church was built of Magnesian Limestone excavated from the construction of Swainson Dock in the 1850s. The building opened in April 1854, at a cost of £6,000 and the tower is 100 feet high, from which there are commanding views of West Hartlepool. Christ Church was deconsecrated in 1973 and is now an Art Gallery and Tourist Information Centre.
