Tomb. 1765. Sandstone ashlar and slate. Large rectangular tomb
raised on two steps with moulded plinth, and base topped by
moulded band. At each corner a fluted Doric pilaster
supporting a moulded entablature topped by a cornice. Each
face has a large rectangular plaque with ornate carved
pilaster panels at either. The west front has a long
inscription on the slate plaque recording the life and
exploits of Andrew Lord Rollo, died 1765, above this a slate
carved coat-of-arms which rises into the open pediment. The
remaining three fronts each have a shallow carved relief of
Lord Rollo's arms and military trophies.
This tomb is a rare and exceptionally fine example of C18
slate carving.
