House. C17, extended late C18 early C19. Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble
stack topped with C19 and C20 brick; thatched roof. 2 room plan house facing west
comprising original C17 one room plan cottage to right (south) and extension set
back from the main range on left (north) end. Large rear lateral stack to main
room. Roof continuous with Woodstock, Church Street (q.v.) adjoining to right
(south). 2 storeys. 4-window front of late C19 early C20 casements with glazing
bars, 2 to each block. Door set to left of main block with early C20 slate roofed
porch with glazed sides with glazing bars.
Interior: main (right) room has chamfered and scroll-stopped crossbeam and large
mudstone fireplace with oak lintel, also chamfered with scroll stops, and brick side
oven to left. Winder stair to right of fireplace. Plain carpentry detail to left
block and small fireplace inserted into side of main stack; existing timber lintel
replaced brick arch. Roof over main room is 2 bays carried on tie beam truss with
pegged lap-jointed collar. Extension has A-frame truss roof of more insubstantial
scantling.
