A view of Watford Town Hall and the concave south-east side taken in late 1939, prior to the official opening by the Countess of Clarendon on January 5, 1940. The foundation stone was laid in May 1938, and the municipal buildings cost £186,000, in a prime site at the junction of Rickmansworth and Hempstead roads, where a large, new roundabout had been constructed in 1936. At the time, the Town Hall was considered to be a fine example of a modern building in the neo-Georgian tradition.
