Description

SPELSBURY DEAN
SP32SW
7/163 Dean Mill

II

Watermill and mill house, now one dwelling. Probably C18 and C20. Coursed
limestone rubble with wooden lintels; Stonesfield-slate roof with brick and
stone stacks. 3-unit plan plus subsidiary ranges. 2 storeys plus attic. 3-window
main range has 2-light casements plus 2 doorways positioned between the bays;
left section was probably the mill and has a metal waterwheel attached to the
gable wall. Steep-pitched roof has 2 stacks and 2 gabled roof dormers on the
house section. Set back to right, is a further 2-window section, probably C20,
linking to a former outbuilding and returning forwards in a further converted
section, mostly of timber construction. Interior not inspected but noted as
retaining most of wood and metal gear.
