House, now hotel. Late C17, late C18, c.1840. Red brick, stock
brick, some render. Slate roofs with stone coped gables with
kneelers. 5 ridge stacks, 3 with triple angle shafts, one with 5
angle shafts and a fifth to the south with 4 shafts in cruciform
plan. 2 storeys and attic. Late C18 5 bay west front with
slightly projecting central bay plus a projecting stock brick C19
bay to left with stepped gable and large stone finial. The
latter with slightly projecting bay window with double glazed
doors flanked by narrow fixed lights, overlights and with a
dentillated band running above. Window in C18 bay to right with
C19 glazed door with margin lights, inserted, retaining segmental
head and wedge lintel. 4 glazing bar sashes to right and 6
glazing bar sashes above, all with segmental heads and wedge
lintels. 3 C19 attic windows to right, all with coped gables and
kneelers. The flanking attic windows with 2 light casements with
glazing bars; the central window with a single casement with
glazing bars, and a slit light in gable above. 3 light casement
in C19 bay to left with moulded brick stepped hoodmould with coat
of arms at apex. All the casements with segmental heads. C19
rendered 3 bay north front with plinth, and gabled porch to left
with doorway with pointed head, continuous moulded surround and
double plank doors. 2 glazing bar sashes to right with 3 glazing
bar sashes above, all with flat chamfered heads. Above window to
right is a coat of arms and inscribed: "Domino Confido", and a
small casement in stepped gable above. Small, red brick C17
south range hemmed in by C19 additions with steeply pitched roof
with stone coped gables. C19 range built up against south side
with 2 shuttered openings with segmental heads, and a traceried
rose window in stepped gable, with rectangular, brick moulded
hood mould.
