SHARLSTON THE GREEN
SE 31 NE
4/64 No. 19
1.7.1981
- II
Farmhouse, now house. C17 and C19. Coursed squared sandstone, and coursed
sandstone rubble, with some brick; roofs of Welsh slate and stone slate. T-
plan formed by C19 2-unit front range with C17 rear wing. The front block,
of 2 storeys and 2 bays, almost symmetrical, has a doorway offset right of
centre, with plain surround, and 2 windows on each floor, all of 9 panes,
the lower with sliding sash openings; gable copings and gable chimneys. The
rear wing, apparently a storage wing to an earlier house, has in the left
(west) side one recessed 4-light mullioned on each floor, the lower blocked,
and both with hoodmoulds; the rear gable has a similar 2-light window on each
floor, the upper restored, and both with straight dripmoulds; and a small
inserted window above the upper. (East side covered by modern addition).
Interior: rear wing has a storage basement with inserted partition walls of
brick, and the room above, which is unceiled, has a king post roof truss
braced to the ridge, 2 pairs of purlins; and a former tie-beam incorporated
in the masonry of the gable wall. (Recently added east wing not included in
the item.)
