Three houses in group. C19 refronting, but basically C17 with some C15 or C16 fragments incorporated. Ham stone ashlar
facade; double Roman clay tiled roof aver stone slate base courses; stepped coped gables, brick and stone chimney
stacks. 'L'-plan, two storeys with attic, 3 bays. No. 7 of 2 bays, with shallow chamfer-mullioned windows, 2-light
above and 3-light to lower bay 1, no labels, horizontal-bar casements inserted: earlier C20 door set in plain opening
lower bay 2: under eaves two stones combining to give date 1822, but set upside down. No. 8 to rear of No. 7 and not
seen closely, but there are mullioned windows and a large proudstanding chimney stack with offsets. No 9 has one bay;
hollow-chamfer mullioned windows in wave-mould recesses, 3 lights, both with labels and horizontal-bar casements
inserted: to left, a aot1ldBd near-triangular arched doorway in rectangular recess under hoodmould, giving access to
through passage, and to right a blocked pointed arched doorway,both set rather low. In south gable a blocked 3-light
lid traceried attic window. Interiors not seen, but reported in No. 9 are a stud and panel-wall, and tie-bean truss
roof. There is a tradition that this was the former manor-house of Montacute. (VCH Vol III, 1974; VAG Report,
Unpublished SR0, 1975).
