GV II

Pair of houses. Early C19, altered C20. Ashlar, slate roof. 3
storeys with attics and later dormers. Each house 3 windows
wide with entrance left. Stone steps up to 6-panel doors, part
glazed, overlights with glazing bars, flat hoods on large
shaped brackets. Sashes with glazing bars, some altered to
4-pane sashes, stone sills and shallow lintels. Multi-flue
stacks straddle ridge centre and right.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Part of terrace with Nos 1 & 2 (qv). Samuel Smiles, social
reformer and author of 'Self Help' came to live at No.3 in
1847.
