House, now 3 houses. 1838 with later addition. For Thomas
Judson, builder. Red/brown brick, 1:5 English bond, slate
hipped roof.
2 storeys, 3 first-floor windows, symmetrical facade facing S,
later 2-storey service block added to left (W) side. Nosed
treads to stone steps rising to a central 6-panel door and
overlight with glazing bars in doorcase with reeded pilasters,
entablature and cornice. Sash windows with margin-light
glazing bars in flush wood frames, slightly cambered gauged
brick arches, stone sills. Rear: central door adapted to serve
2 properties; sashes with glazing bars, central round-headed
stair window.
INTERIOR: reputed to retain original fittings including fine
staircase.
Ash Grove was the only detached house built on Victoria Road
by 1850, (Ordnance Survey) and the only brick-built house of
the period in this area.
