Walls, railings, gate piers and
gates to former United Reformed
Church

GV II

Walls and gate piers to church. c1864. Possibly by Cuthbert
Brodrick. Rock-faced gritstone and ashlar with wooden gates
and cast-iron railings. On S and E side of former United
Reformed Church (qv), wall approx 1m high, overall length
approx 80m.
Headingley Lane wall steps down ground slope; chamfered
coping, railings missing. Gate piers and gates at W end and
corner, piers approx 2m high, chamfered plinth, pointed
capstone with lucarnes. Double gates with diagonal boards and
octagonal pierced panels, strap hinges.
Wall to Cumberland Road: walling continues uphill from the
church E porch, railing survives: groups of 3 twisted rails
linked by top and bottom trefoil-pierced bands with tooth-like
finials.
Gate piers to church entrance at N end of E side: chamfered
shafts with squat pyramid caps, gate and railing to path and
steps with twisted rails, trefoil-pierced bands and pointed
bud finials.
