Garden ornament. Late C19. Glazed terracotta plaque set in an
artificial stone mound. Plaque approx 1m long, Classical
female winged figure in high relief, one foot balanced on a
crowned winged mask, hands supporting a vase with grotesque
mask and flowers. Tile border has birds and fruit in shallow
relief. Blue and brown shades, the plaque fired in one piece,
it is one of a pair (qv). Now incorporated into a hedge, the
mound overgrown with ivy.
Probably a product of the Burmantofts factory, possibly set
here when the park was established, c1897.
