GV II

Memorial to George Johnston Crowther. c1861. Ashlar and carved
stone. A deep square base and plinth with inscription on S
side; a tall Ionic column with square gadrooned urn finial
above. Inscription: 'GEORGE JOHNSTON CROWTHER/ of the Chemical
Works Woodhouse/ who died SEPT 16TH 1861/ AGED 48 YEARS/ He
was useful without being conspicuous;/ and died respected and
regretted by all/ who knew him'.
