Driver memorial approx. 10m west of
Church of St Mark

GV II

Memorial. c1859. Stone and pink marble. Square low curb with
remains of cast-iron rail, stepped plinth with inscription on
E side, entablature and cornice with egg-and-dart moulding,
surmounted by stone canopy supported on 4 squat marble shafts,
square finial. Richard Driver of Bagbie Lodge died in 1859.
The tribute reads: 'FOR MANY YEARS MERCHANT OF THIS TOWN,/ WHO
BY STRICT INTEGRITY, AND PUNCTUALITY/ IN BUSINESS, DESERVED
AND WON THE CONFIDENCE/ OF HIS EQUALS, AND IN HIS DEATH, BY
HIS/ LIBERALITY, EARNED THE BLESSING OF THE POOR.
