SJ3198SW MURAT STREET 778-1/6/110 (North East side) Nos.52 AND 54 Former coach house to No.13 Beach Lawn
GV II
Coach house, now workshops. Later C19; altered. Red and yellow brick in English bond with some blue brick courses, hipped slate roof with red ridge tiles and metal terminal finials. Gothic style. Rectangular plan parallel to street, with carriage entry through the centre. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys plus a square 1-stage tower over the carriage entry, 3:1:3 windows, with brick corbel-tables. The centre has a large segmental-headed archway with red sandstone springing blocks and a moulded brick head with a foliated terracotta keystone; a canted stone oriel rising into the tower, which has a brick corbel table and a steep pyramidal roof with a steep canopied dormer to the front. The 3-window range to the left has a tall segmental-headed doorway in the centre, a tall half-dormer above this with a corbelled head and half-hipped roof with barge-boarding and an apex finial; and 2 windows on each floor, that to the left at ground floor altered, that to the right segmental-headed, and those above shouldered with stone lintels. The range to the right has a tall segmental-headed doorway at the right-hand end, and windows at 1st floor like those to the left except that to the left which has been replaced with an oblong C20 window. Rear and interior not inspected, but appears to be front range of courtyard block, the other ranges of which appear to have been more altered.
