House, now Roman Catholic manse. Probably late C18 and early
to mid C19; altered. Pebble-dashed render with painted stone
dressings, with stuccoed wing, slate roofs; glazed
conservatory.
PLAN: irregular plan formed by double-pile main range parallel
to street, under 2-span roof, with projecting wing to right
and square 2-storey porch in the angle; various additions to
rear; conservatory attached to left end.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 1:3:1:2 windows, with a 1st-floor
sillband. The porch has a Classical-style pedimented doorway
with fluted pilasters, a frieze with triglyphs and metopes, a
dentilled segmental pediment, a panelled reveal and recessed
panelled door with a glazed top panel; an oculus at 1st floor,
and a moulded cornice with blocking course. The main range to
the left has a large 2-storey canted bay window at the left
end, with Edwardian sashes (glazing bars in the upper leaves
only) and a moulded cornice; a keyed oculus and 2 French
windows at ground floor with altered glazing, and sashes of
12, 4 and 4 panes at 1st floor. The gable of the wing has
blank arcading at ground floor, with 2 wide elliptical arches
containing 4-pane sashes alternating with narrow blank arches,
2 similar 4-pane sashes at 1st floor, and an open pedimental
gable. All windows (except the oculi) have delicate
blind-hoods in the heads. Ridge chimney at the junction, gable
chimney to left.
The conservatory to the left, 5x4 bays, with a half-hipped
roof, has windows with glazing bars, top-hung overlights with
stained glass, a doorway in the west end, and roof finials at
both ends of the ridge.
